CHAPTER 3

Plop! I fall on my bed, tired. I had walked all the way from Kodoku's village, The Village of The Lost.
All of the villages around here are named for the people that live there. Such as, if it is a village with mostly elemental rebels, that village is named Village of Four Sides. The sides representing the four elements, fire, water, earth, and wind.
The walk back to my home, the Land Of Misfortune, was killer. Now, don't try to put that into your GPS and drive here. You have to be a pure breed demon to even see the portal, or get sent there by my dad himself.  Trust me. You never want to be sent there.  "Most likely she'll call on a rainy day in the near future..." I murmur softly to just myself. Finally, I reached my little shack on the beach. I walk in and sit on my bed. Suddenly, I hear a familiar sound. My gaze lifted to the window, just to see a young looking Seagull, who peered into the window, with its beady black eyes burning into mine. With a small smile, I tap the glass, and the bird flew off.

MONTHS LATER

"Sissy?!" A girl about of age twelve gasped, slowly pressing her cold, bare feet against the sticky red grass. A tear fell from her face, followed by many more soon after. By her feet, was the body of her baby sister, coated in deep cuts and blood. "Sam..." The girl gasped. The name of her biggest brother, whom she called papa, from his fatherly nature. She ran into the house, nearly blinded by her own tears. When she ran in, her dad was on the couch, spitting up blood. "Papa?!' She ran over, sobbing. "What's happening..?!" Her brother forced a weak smile. "Kodoku.. It's-" He cut off by a fit of coughs. "It's him... Deuce's... Minions… I want you to run, Kodoku. You and Your sister... Kaori. Run, go to Leore. Whatever you do... Avoid the slave masters. Don't let mine and your sister's death distract you. I only want you to be safe…" He wheezed weakly. "I… Love you…" He let his last breath slip away from his lips.

"No..! PAPA!" Kodoku sobbed. "This isn't happening…" She whimpered, clutching her hands over her wolf ears. She felt a soft, tender hand on her shoulder. "Kodoku..." The silver-haired girl looked over her shoulder, just to see her beautiful cat hybrid sister Kaori. She wore her blonde hair in thick, elegant waves, to her elbows. She had brown ears and tail. Her green eyes sparkled with sorrow. "Let's go." She murmured and looked to the door. "Get what you need." Kodoku nodded a little. Kanji…! "I have to call someone…!" She ran to her room and scrambled to grab her cell. She swiftly called up Kanji. Within 3 rings, she answered. "Kodoku?" She murmured. "What is it?" The vampire's tone was mellow and demanding. Kodoku burst out into sobs, explaining weakly. On the other line, there was a silence. "I'll be right there. Go to the outskirts of your town, Northwest." Kanji hung up.

"The outskirts… Here we are, Kodoku." Kaori called to the little wolf girl who had lagged behind. "Coming..!" She ran over. "She should be here soon…" Kodoku looked down to her feet and took a seat on the grass. "Kodoku. How did you meet this girl?" Kodoku looked out to the grassy horizon. She explained, with a tone as if she was daydreaming while explaining.
Kaori blinked. "So, what your saying is, She randomly walked up to you and said, Hey! I can protect you!" Kaori asked, sarcasm hinted in her voice.
Kodoku whimpered, wolf ears folding back. "Well, I-"
Kaori sighed. "Joking."

After a few hours, Kanji finally arrived, mud and grime smeared all over her. She looked as if she hasn't even heard of a bath, but still smirked slyly. "Hey kids." She helped Kodoku and Kaori up. "Now, as we're walking to my place, did your dad say anything about where he wants you to go?"
Kodoku thought back. "Yes.. Leore."
Kanji blinked a few times. "That's the town the war hasn't reached yet.." She blinked.
The little wolf girl tilted her head. "So, he wants us to go there?"
"I see why.. Leore is the perfect place to live.. Gonna have to run it by Serpent, first."
Kaori looked at Kanji. "Serpent?"
"Cousin."
"Ah."

When they finally got back, Serpent looked fearful. Kanji ran over. "Serpent? What is it?"
"They found out.. The mortals that we used to hang out with found out who we are.."
Kanji's eyes lit with fear, and she stepped backward. "No.." She whimpered. "We have to; A: run. B; Stop the war. C; kill off the man in charge here."
Serpent's eyes darkened. "All of the above."
